Privacy policy
A site that tells you to protect other people's data should be able to give you a short, specific account of what it does with yours. Here it is.
What this site collects#
No cookies. No analytics. No tracking pixels. No advertising networks. No third-party scripts of any kind. Every page on this site is a static file. There is nothing running on it that watches you.
The readiness check#
The readiness check runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are never transmitted anywhere, are not stored on your device, and are not visible to us. When you close or reload the page they cease to exist. There is no “enter your email to see your results” step, and there never will be.
Server logs#
This site is served by a commercial static hosting provider. Like essentially all web servers, theirs records requests — typically including IP address, the page requested, the time, and the browser's user-agent string. These logs are generated by the host as part of delivering the site and are subject to the host's own retention practices. We do not use them to build profiles of visitors, do not combine them with anything else, and do not sell or share them.
Email you send us#
If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you put in the message, and we keep the correspondence so we can act on it — a reported correction, for instance, needs to be traceable to its source. We do not add correspondents to any mailing list.

What we do not do#
- We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for their own purposes.
- We do not use advertising or retargeting.
- We do not collect information from anyone we know to be under 13.
- We do not ask for, and have no use for, Social Security numbers, financial account information, or client data of any kind.
Purchases#
The book is sold through a third-party retailer. If you buy it, that transaction happens on the retailer's site under the retailer's privacy policy, not ours. We do not receive, process, or store your payment information, and we do not receive a list of who bought the book.
Update alerts#
An optional email list is planned, for one purpose: notifying readers when a standard the book relies on changes. It does not exist yet. When it launches, this section will state exactly what is collected, how it is stored, how to unsubscribe, and how long addresses are kept — before the first address is collected, not after.
Your choices#
Because this site sets no cookies and runs no scripts that report anywhere, there is nothing to opt out of. If you have written to us and would like the correspondence deleted, ask and it will be. If you are in a jurisdiction that gives you statutory rights of access, correction, or deletion, write to us and we will honor them.
Changes to this policy#
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. A privacy policy with no date on it tells you nothing — the same standard this project applies to everything else it publishes.
